LeoStella is looking for a Mechanical Engineer – Environmental Test

Position Description: To support a growing team, LeoStella requires an experienced and creative mechanical engineer to own the mechanical and environmental test space (leak and pressure, vibration, shock, thermal balance, and thermal vacuum), create test plans and procedures, design ground support equipment, and execute tests for flight hardware that drives mission execution and success on the Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) team. We need an exceptional individual contributor who enjoys working very closely with software and hardware in an agile and dynamic environment where schedules are critical. As a mechanical test engineer, you will be responsible for leading the planning, development, and implementation of the testing of satellites and their subsystems. You will get to work with both internal and external customers to ensure tests are thorough and meet all requirements. Youll work closely with aerospace system and hardware engineers to help specify requirements and provide feedback to design engineers for test/design for manufacturing (DFT/DFM). To be successful in this position, you will need to be passionate about satellites/space and a desire to deliver exceptional products that meet or exceed requirements and enable new capabilities for satellite performance. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and someone who is willing to pitch in where necessary to support a small team. This person will spend time working in a cleanroom environment with high-value sensitive equipment. Primary Responsibilities: Mechanical and environmental test lab ownership (leak and pressure, vibration, shock, thermal balance and thermal vacuum) Lead the planning, development, and implementation of acceptance and/or qualification environmental tests for satellites and their subsystems Operating vibration test equipment to perform sine, quasi-static, and random vibration tests Review of test article responses against predicted responses to ensure safety of the test article, identify damage to the test article, and ensure test controls are appropriate. Author and update test and assembly procedures, perform data reduction, and generate reports Ensure that adequate test, inspection, and analysis reports verify compliance with the requirements Sourcing and maintaining test equipment for environmental test Develop process improvement tools and methods to help streamline test and integration operations. Required Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Person. Due to government regulation of the space industry, this requirement cannot be waived. Bachelor of Science or greater in Engineering, or a related field 3+ years random vibration testing experience, with experience in vibration test control and response limiting Experience with DAQ setup, operation, and data interpretation Thorough understanding of vibration input and response spectra Excellent interpersonal skills and belief in a strong collaborative approach within a multi-disciplinary team Unwavering attention to detail and ability to succeed in a hands-on environment with valuable hardware assets Desired Qualifications: Experience using force limiting for vibration test control Experience with software scheduling and tasking tools (e.g. Jira) Capability to use electrical measurement equipment i.e.: function generators, oscilloscopes Experience assembling mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware following detailed instructions Thermal and thermal vacuum test engineering and execution MGSE design m+ p international vibration test software Nastran/Femap MATLAB Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Compensation & Benefits: Compensation range is $90K-$125K + 10% target bonus Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case by case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Base salary is one part of your total rewards package – you may also be eligible for up to 10% potential bonuses. Additional employee benefits are detailed below as well.
