We are seeking an Optical Systems Engineer to join our Emerging Technologies Department. The successful candidate will bring expertise in electro-optic systems, enhancing our growing teams capabilities. This role will be responsible for participating in systems, hardware, and software design activities of new development projects for emerging technologies and products being developed for use in DoD environments. The candidate will participate and/or take ownership in requirements analysis activities to include requirements generation, allocation, and tracking throughout the development and delivery to the customer. This systems engineer will also contribute to and support organization-wide efforts across multi-disciplined teams in, optical, electrical, mechanical, and software technical areas. What You’ll Do: Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and perform optical system analysis related to the performance assessment of free-space electro-optical systems. Apply experience in optical remote sensing system design including the development of system architecture to meet requirements. Actively participate in hands-on tasks involving system and subsystem integration and testing. Conduct and coordinate design analyses to support the development of individual optical and opto-mechanical components, and assemblies of electro-optic systems. Develop and maintain system requirement specifications along with system design and development documents, including System Designs, Drawings, Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Reports, etc. Ensure that the system requirements are met through subsystem and system level Verification and Validation with full traceability throughout the development process. Collaborate with engineers and scientists to solve technical problems and ensure that the system features meet the specified requirements. Prepare and submit technical documentation and reports through coordination with engineering, configuration management, and upper management. Contribute and participate in customer meetings, technical interchange meetings, System Requirements Reviews (SRR) and design reviews (PDR/CDR). Undertake other duties as assigned. What You’ll Bring: B.S. Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics or related field. 2-5+ years experience in systems engineering involving optical systems or subsystems. Experience in working independently to develop optical system architecture and perform system analysis. Fundamental understanding of the systems engineering processes, system development, COTS components evaluation and integration, and requirements based tests and execution. Hands-on experience with system requirements that cover the expected military customer use environment and operational conditions. Outstanding analytical, problem solving, planning, and abstract thinking skills Ability to adapt to fast moving environments with evolving deadlines and communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively. U.S. Citizenship is required. Nice To Haves: M.S. Degree in Applied Optics, Physics or in a closely related field. A fundamental knowledge of long-range lidar systems and laser safety. Development of reliability, maintainability, and safety models/analyses. Understanding of general atmospheric properties and the standard remote sensing methods used to measure them. Experience with Qualification testing per RTCA DO-160 or MIL-Standards (MIL-STD-704, 810, 461, 464). What You Could Expect: The freedom to take risks, to innovate, and to be rewarded. Pay Range: $92,000-$134,000 However, base salary for this position will vary based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
