SEGULA TECHNOLOGIES is assisting our client in hiring a Staff Engineer, Brake Systems to join their growing team in in the West / Southwest region of the United States. Our client is an automotive / transportation manufacturer with a passion for a zero-emissions future. Job Description The Staff Engineer, Brake Systems in the Wheel End Systems team of the Chassis Engineering and Vehicle Dynamics department will own the design and release of foundation and controlled braking systems. You will collaborate with intra / cross-functional teams, suppliers, manufacturing, testing, and validation teams on the complete life cycle of the foundation and controlled braking systems projects through product launch, and implementation of lessons learned on subsequent products (cradle-to-cradle responsibility). Job Responsibilities Apply fundamental physics to lead progression of design maturity, from initial concept to product launch, to next concept. Generate and review foundation and controlled braking systems analytical models to drive product design and development. Lead definition of appropriate system-level engineering targets for brake systems to meet performance function, quality, and attribute requirements of the Vehicle Program. Lead development and validation of Vehicle / System Design Specifications incorporating company, industry, and regulatory standards, test procedures, and material specifications. Ensure braking systems meet performance targets and meet certification requirements for FMVSS / CMVSS. Lead resolution of design issues, validation issues, and performance incompatibilities through deep collaboration with cross-functional teams. Lead, develop, and maintain the Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R), including both in-house and supplier testing plans, and ensure sign-off tests are completed and on schedule. Support Purchasing team in sourcing, RFQ activities, supplier site visits for APQP and PPAP. Support vehicle launch and pre-production builds with the vehicle integration team (both virtual / 3D CAD and physical). Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in the automotive or commercial braking industries, including foundation brake and control braking, design or product development experience, validation testing, and brake system release. Experience with foundation brake system design, development, validation testing, and release. Experience with brake control system design, development, validation testing, and release. Experience with brake system instrumentation, set-up, and data analysis. Working knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, DVP&R, DFSS, DFA, DFM, APQP, VA/VE and problem resolution (8D, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.). Strong grasp of solid mechanics fundamentals. Able to apply mechanical engineering fundamentals to creatively solve problems. Excellent communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with a teamwork mindset. Flexible personality and able to handle different level of engineering functions.
